![]() ![]() ![]() Posted: Mon 3:10 pm Post subject: Re: Dual bank battery charger and installment/placementĪs winter storage time has arrived for my 2002 Eurovan, I've been reading up on battery stuff. On the road, carrying a 1kw generator is a good thing. When you're on the road you certainly carry a jump pack for the starter battery, can jump it via the coach battery also with GoWesty's instructions. Really, if you have a good starter and coach battery to begin with, for short term downtime, say a month or two, just disconnect the neg terminals. If you're worried about the starter battery, just get a $40 battery tender and plug it in along with the 3200. The 3200 does fine for keeping the coach batt charged short term, and on the road. Sure, it would be cool to have a dual bank charger and rip out the 3200, not worth it to me. However - I don't know if that will work with the existing Parallax 3200 still hooked up to the coach battery. The dual bank can stay loose in the engine compartment if you won't be using it on the road. I suppose option 3 would be buy the ProSport dual bank, hook it to the isolator relay on the EVC's firewall following GoWesty's wiring diagram. The advantage of a 4-stage is it has an "anti-sulfation" mode that will crank the amps up once-a-month. It has a bulk mode for a deeply-discharged house battery, will adjust rate of charge as the battery voltage goes up, then goes into maintenance mode. IMO, the stock Parallax 3200 is a decent unit. How many months is your downtime with the van? If it's only a month or two just disconnect the neg terminals on both batts. And maybe consider Option 1 as a winter project down the road. I was hoping to split the difference and install a dual bank charger to avoid taking batteries in/out and just plug in one unit only. Buying 2 small battery tenders for each battery. All things being equal, that would be the best option but it might be out of my wheelhouse, orĢ. Replacing the entire stock unit with a newer dual bank. I had stumbled upon some of it in my research.ġ. Pull the batteries and hook them to a $40 4-stage battery tender for longterm storage. Disconnect the Neg terminals from both batteries for short term down time. You also already have a fuse/ckt breaker panel on the EVC.įor me, even though the stock Magnetek 3200 is unsophisticated, replacing it isn't worth it. You already have an isolator relay under the hood on the firewall, GoWesty's website has some info about it. GoWesty has a video for a Vanagon ProSport install Posted: Sun 2:27 pm Post subject: Re: Dual bank battery charger and installment/placement solenoid, etc.įinally, I am good about following diagrams/pictures!!! In the Vanagon section, there was quite a lot of discussion whether to install directly on the battery terminals vs. 20 amp unit?Īnd where would be the best place to mount it?Īny installation suggestions would also be most welcomed. What size is adequate? I want 3 stage charging for my AGM shore battery. There are a lot of threads in the Vanagon section but nothing relating to Eurovans.Ī lot of folks appear to favour Pro Sport. Basically I want to the ability to charge both batteries when not in use without overcharging. And please keep it simple as electronics is not my strong suit. I just purchased my 1995 camper so I am quite new. I am starting a new thread for suggestions for a dual bank battery charger and, more importantly, where and how to install it.
